Snoring Clinic
Last updated: November 17th, 2024
A snoring clinic focuses on diagnosing and treating snoring and related disorders like sleep apnea.
Chronic snoring is more than an annoyance. It can signal underlying issues that impact health, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Patients should seek evaluation at a snoring clinic if they have:
- loud, disruptive snoring,
- daytime fatigue, or
- a history of gasping during sleep.
Otolaryngologists, better known as ENT specialists, typically run these clinics. During an appointment, the specialist will review the patient’s sleep history. They may order diagnostic tests like a sleep study (polysomnography) to understand the extent of airway obstruction.
Treatments range from lifestyle changes and positional therapy to medical devices such as oral appliances or CPAP machines.
Addressing snoring:
- improves sleep quality,
- reduces cardiovascular risks, and
- enhances the well-being of both the patient and their sleep partners.
