Respiratory Physicians in Malta and Gozo
Respiratory Physicians
Respiratory physicians, also referred to as lung doctors or pulmonologists, take care of patients with lung conditions and diseases. They diagnose, treat, and prevent lower respiratory system conditions and diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, dyspnea, and others. Respiratory physicians can also perform a noninvasive test to see how well your lungs are performing. This test shows your lung volume and capacity, gas exchange and rates of flow.
When to see a respiratory physician
You might need a referral from your GP to see a respiratory physician. Not all lung conditions require a respiratory physician’s consultation and can be treated by your GP alone. However, if you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms below and they are persistent you might need to see a respiratory physician.
- Breathing difficulty
- Persistent cough
- Mucus or/and blood in your cough
- Unexplained weight loss
Remember to always consult with your GP if you’re unsure or experiencing any issues.
