Radiologists in Malta and Gozo
Radiologists
Radiologists specialise in diagnosing and treating diseases or injuries with medical imaging procedures. Procedures can include X-rays, ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT scan), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and nuclear medicine. Radiologists play a big part in treatments using radiation oncology and interventional radiology. They also take part in surgeries and procedures that require imaging guidance.
When to see a radiologist
You will usually be referred to see a radiologist by your GP or another physician. Radiology can play a big role in diagnosing the disease or injury. Most of the time, radiologists only interpret the image rather than giving you a final diagnosis. Remember to always consult with your GP if you’re unsure or experiencing any issues. You might be referred to see a radiologist in any of these cases:
- Injury (broken bones or torn muscle)
- Pregnancy
- Cancer or tumour screening
- Foreign objects in your body
- Some infections
- Accidents and trauma
- Problems with arteries or other blood vessels
